Information on Obtaining an SSL Certificate and Having Gizmo Beach Install it

An SSL Server Certificate will enable SSL on your web server, giving you the ability to communicate securely with online customers or users. SSL protects all online communications and transactions so you can take credit card orders, protect sensitive personal information, and ensure that hackers cannot detect your passwords.

The cost of the certificate varies and depends on the strength of the encryption algorithm. Certificates are normally sold as 40-bit up to 256-bit certificates.

If you are ready to purchase an SSL Certificate, please follow this process:

  1. Log into Helm - Log into your Helm Control Panel account, click on the Domains icon to view the commands available for your plan.  Look for the "Dedicated SSL Management" icon.  (Only Plus Plans and higher offer dedicated SSL services)
  2. Create CSR - click on the "Dedicated SSL Management" icon. Click on the "Generate Certificate Request" link.  Then enter the information in the form.  (You can leave the "Self-Sign this Certificate" as un-checked.)
  3. Save CSR Request - click the "Submit Request" button to save your request.  You will see the certificate has been created and is in "Pending" status.
  4. Contact Gizmo Beach - email us and let us know you want to purchase an SSL Certificate and identify which one. If your account is setup as "Pay by Check", then we will need payment before we can process the order.  If you have a credit card on file, once we charge the card we will process the order for you.

There is an additional cost of $10.00/month for the dedicated IP address which is required for SSL Certificates.

After we receive payment from you for the order, we can help you get the SSL certificate install in your web site.  Depending on which certificate you purchase will determine how long it takes to receive.

Normally, the RapidSSL certifcates can be turned around either the same day or the next day.

IMPORTANT!!! When you fill out the online form for the CSR, the information must be correct for your organization or your request could be rejected.

(1) The organization name must match with registered owner of the domain name. The Certificate Authority will check for a match. If you plan to order from Thawte, note that all information is case-sensitive and must match exactly to any corporate documentation you have.

(2) The Organization Unit is the department within your company that is ordering the certificate. Examples include Network Services, Marketing, Engineering, etc.
